In my very first exchange, which was to London, was arranged wihtin 48 hours of my joining! By coincidence, InventedCity had been contacted by a British television station interested in doing a piece on home exchange, and with our permission, we were filmed arriving at our exchange property and seeing the sights of London, as well as interviewed for the program! The people we exchanged with had a lovely time in our apartmment, were very respectful of our home, and even left us fresh flowers and a book as a welcome home presents!
In another exchange we arrived at our New England exchange home well after midnight. The next morning started to walk the grounds only to find that we were in the midst of huge gorgeous (10 acre) garden that would be ours for the next two weeks. ""Our family traded homes and cars with a family from Northampton, England. We put 2,500 miles on their car touring Scotland, Wales, and parts of England. We had a comfortable house in a good location and found the trip invaluable to our 2 teenagers as well as ourselves. By the way, our exchange family drove nearly the same number of miles visiting locales here in Washington! Favorite places are too numberous to mention, however our visit to Hatfield, home to Pooh Bear and all the characters from Milne's books stands out as well as the Lake District (Grasmere and Windermere). Punting in Cambridge and touring Oxford were highlights as well."

She has since moved to the states and we keep in touch. Homes can be exchanged in relative close proximity as well. I exchanged my city-based condo with someone who lives in the wine country -- only an hour's drive away! We both wanted a change for the weekend. It worked out great"
